Constitution Party of Wisconsin

GENESIS of CPoW
HISTORY of CONSTITUTION PARTY of WISCONSIN

The Constitution party of Wisconsin, formerly called U.S.Taxpayers Party (USTP), started in Wisconsin in 1991 as a grassroots effort, with no money, only by the interest of true patriots disillusioned by the unconstitution, pro-death policies of the two "Big Box" parties. Seeking to restore this nation to its true lawful, constitutional roots, a handful of men and women gathered around the vision of Ed Frami, a political science graduate who "had a dream" to right the badly listing ship.

Steering came from Howard Phillips of the Conservative Caucus from Vienna, Virginia. Phillips, a Harvard graduate, who served in the Nixon administration, saw firsthand the real problems inside the beltway. Howard began coordinating efforts by phone with Wisconsin and other states to start a new polital party.

In 1991, the USTP was plugged on the Marlin Maddoux "Point Of View", a nationally broadcast radio show. Guest speaker Howard Phillips asked listeners to call his toll free number for more information. The radio names were forwarded to contacts Lucille Brandt and Ed Frami in Wisconsin. The USTP organized by 1992 with Howard Phillips running for President in Wisconsin and other states.

By December 19, 1992, Ed Frami was meeting with Howard's supporters. On March 27,1993, the USTP of Wisconsin had its first State Convention and was officially registered as a political party at the Wisconsin State Elections Board. The USTP-WI became a ballot qualified political party in 1994 through the efforts of founding patriots Ed Frami, George King Jr. and wife Carol, Lucille Brandt, Lorraine Decker, Lonnie Stine, Bill and Sue Hemenway, Jack and Lu Ann Elsinger, Jed Haas, Thomas and Connie Rivers, Dr. King, Pastor Ralph Ovadal, Chuck Lee and others from various communities such as La Crosse, Oconomowoc, Stevens Point, Milwaukee, Racine, Eau Claire and surrounding towns, .

Early on Howard Phillips would fly in to speak and help organize the fledgling party. Howard stumped for candidate Chuck Lee in La Crosse . State Party conventions and meetings commenced in La Crosse, Janesville, Baraboo, Milwaukee. Ed Frami ran for Governor and Secretary of State of Wisconsin. Others ran for statewide and local offices, winning various seats.

On September 2, 1999, the USTP National Convention in St. Louis changed its name to The Constitution Party to better reflect the full breadth of issues that the party stood for. To date, over a dozen offices have been won in Wisconsin by CPoW members and party-backers.

The CPoW is listed officially in the State of Wisconsin Blue Book as an official political party. The Constitution Party nationally is the 3rd largest party in America by voter registration. The CPoW has mirrored itself and its platform after the Founding Fathers of this great nation. The Constitution Party of Wisconsin is the only party that lives up to its name and is true to heart.
