February 2002 Newsletter

Greetings fellow conservatives from around the State! I hope this latest newsletter finds you in good health and good cheer.

My subject this time is a sad one, but before I get into the details I'd like to cover two other items briefly.

First of all, a special greeting to those fellow pro-lifers receiving this newsletter for the first time. I hope you will find reading this text informative.

Second, a brief update on our progress towards having our name removed from the "Hate Group" list because of our Christian beliefs. While contributions for our legal fund were well below expectations, we have secured an attorney. I have also been in contact with several other Christian organizations named in the Journal article as "Hate Groups" and we are proceeding in a cooperative manner with them. More updates will follow in future letters.

Now on to the business at hand. As I type this the 29th anniversary date for the fateful Roe v. Wade decision is upon us. Several things about this Supreme Court ruling upset me. There's the jurisdiction issue; the Supreme Court had no jurisdiction in this matter and, Constitutionally speaking, should never have heard the case. There's the "law of the land issue". In any other court case, a decision sets precedent for future cases; it does not decree a blanket covering for all future cases. The decision in the Roe v. Wade case was applicable only to that case. And, the Supreme Court does not make law, it is suppose to rule on existing law. To the best of my knowledge, Congress has never passed a law guaranteeing a woman the "right to choose".

The simple fact of the matter is, abortion is no longer an issue about choice. Abortion, and the industry it supports, is about money - lots of money.

Planned Parenthood, the single, largest abortion provider in the Nation, receives hundreds of millions of Federal taxpayer dollars every year. That's your money folks! Not to mention the additional money they receive from each individual State. And where does the State get its money? That's right, from your wallet.

Planned Parenthood has a huge stake in maintaining the status quo regarding abortion. But what about the "doctors" who perform this "medical procedure"? The National average cost of an abortion is $300. At nearly one and a half million abortions each year ------ well, you do the math.

And while I'm on the subject of the medical profession, I was under the impression that when an individual graduates from medical school he or she takes the "Hippocratic oath" which states in part:

4. i. And I will not give a drug that is deadly to anyone if asked [for it],
ii. nor will I suggest the way to such a counsel. And likewise I will not give a woman a destructive pessary.
5. i. And in a pure and holy way
ii. I will guard my life and my technique.
6. i. I will not cut, and certainly not those suffering from stone, but I will cede [this] to men [who are] practitioners of this activity.
7. i. Into as many houses as I may enter, I will go for the benefit of the ill,

As I translate that into the more modern and recognized phrase of "do no harm", I ponder just how that applies to abortion? Pregnancy is not a disease, but the abortionist treats it as such.

Certainly modern medical technology has proven beyond a doubt that the life growing inside the womb is more than a "mass of tissue". An ultrasound can detect the heartbeat at four weeks conception. Now, just exactly what "mass of tissue" has a heartbeat?

So I don't see how people who call themselves "medical professionals" can take an oath to "do no harm" and perform an abortion. A procedure that by its very nature increases the woman's risk of uterine bleeding and breast cancer at the same time it takes the life of another human being. The latter certainly does harm each and every time one of these procedures is performed.

And in more recent years, abortionists aren't just taking money from their "patients". A new industry has developed in the trafficking of human body tissue. These people are now also being paid for the deceased bodies of the murdered babies so research can be conducted on the tissue.

I don't know about you, but the thought of that makes me physically ill. I am, right now, sick to my stomach thinking about this whole thing.

Well, what can you and I do about this?

Fortunately, many people are doing something about it. Organizations like "Missionaries to the Pre-born" and "Pro-life Wisconsin" are two of them, and the Constitution Party of Wisconsin fully supports the efforts of these organizations.

Many of you attend rallies sponsored by PLW and many more (myself included) also stand, holding the signs of MTPB in front of the abortatoriums, educating the public on the truth of abortion. I thank God for you and the sacrifice you make of your time and money to these worthwhile organizations; but there is more to be done.

As you read this, winter is half over and, while it may not look like it outside, spring is around the corner. To us in the Constitution Party that means Fair season is close at hand.

Thanks to the organizational efforts of the 'Vote4Frami' campaign, the State of Wisconsin now has nineteen areas identified for the formation of local CPoW Chapters. Those of you with email have received a message from Ed Frami outlining the expectations of these local Chapters.

What I need from the people reading this is a commitment of time to make this a success. That's right, I'm not asking for money in this letter (but please don't let that stop you from sending your most generous contribution, our coffers are low and we need an influx of cash to cover deposits on upcoming County Fairs!).

For the past several years' mostly one person has undertaken the awesome task of organizing and arranging things for local Fairs. Linda, our most heart-felt thanks go out to you for all the time you have put into this enormous job.

Linda has indicated that she can no longer serve in the same capacity as years past. For this reason the State Committee, with the help of Ed's campaign, have identified nineteen combinations of Counties across the State and we are asking the members and supporters who live in those areas to take over the managing and manning of the booth at your local County Fair.

Ed, Linda, and myself will be available to assist these local Chapters in getting started, and we, along with the State Committee, will help anywhere else we can - answering questions, giving guidance, etc. But the simple fact is the job as a whole, has grown too big for a small group of people to do on our own. It's time for the "grass roots, rank-and-file" to step out and turn this political Party into a political machine!

When I first met Howard Phillips at the State Convention in 2000, he said something during his speech that made the hair on the back of my head stand up. He said, "Picture abortionists on trial for murder". Go ahead - stop reading for a moment and think about that. Awesome, isn't it?!

It can happen! But several things need to take place first. We, the State Committee, need you, the person reading this, to help out. We need you to take the next step on the road to a Nation where the innocent are protected by law.

Take a look at the names in the left hand margin of page one. Except for me, those names haven't changed in years. Those are the names of the people who gave birth to the Constitution Party of Wisconsin. Those are the people, along with many others - including spouses - who saw this political Party out of its infancy and through the toddler years. Now these people, who have sacrificially given their resources of time and finances, need you to help with the next step of the growing phase.

If you haven't already received a phone call or post card informing you of a local Chapter organizational meeting, you should soon. I hope every one of you who received the notice will prayerfully consider giving some of your time and attend that meeting.

Now listen, I know what some of you are thinking. "Dan, I work 'x' number of hours each week and I do 'this and that' for my church and I have a family that needs my time and…." The list goes on.

Please don't think I'm asking you to do something that others and myself don't already do. I'm no superman, and yes, my family suffers sometimes. But I look back two hundred twenty-six years to the names of fifty-six men who pledged their life, liberty, and personal fortunes into the founding of these United States of America and I think how ashamed they would be if they could see us now.

I'm not asking you to do any more than the two dozen men and women of the State Committee already do several times each year in attending meetings and volunteering time at their local Fair when it comes around. What I'm asking you to do is join us.

Why is this so important? 2002 is an election year and the County Fairs are one of the best ways to get the Constitution Party name in front of the public. We need that name recognition so when people step into the voting booth in November and see Constitution Party candidates they will have an idea of what we stand for.

The Republicrats and Demicans have had their way with our vote for too long. This Country, this State, and your locality need a change. You can be a part of that change by helping with the formation of a local Chapter in your area.

Please call me directly if you have not been contacted to attend an organizational meeting in your area - the phone number is at the bottom of page one. I will put you in touch with a volunteer or group of volunteers near you who are eagerly awaiting your help.

Historically speaking, Ripon, Wisconsin is the birthplace of the once conservative Republican Party. Now the conservatives of Wisconsin have the opportunity to make history once again. Let your voice be heard by actively serving in a local Chapter. We need your time, now more than ever.

For God and Country,

Daniel M. Hoyt - Interim State Chairman
Constitution Party of Wisconsin
