| Dear CPoW members and friends,
A few days ago, I received an impassioned letter from the RNC. It began with a very important truth (and I quote here) - "I must alert you to an important matter - At this very moment, a fierce battle is being waged for America's heart and soul". I couldn't agree more with the author on this point. As you read this letter, please be completely aware that a battle is raging around us all. Excluding the Providence of God Almighty, the largest determinate of the outcome will be who you choose to fight with (thereby deciding who you will battle against). And make no mistake about it - we are in a battle for the "heart and soul" of America. We are in a struggle for the very continued existence of our nation under God. I do not believe the RNC or the DNC are capable of leading us where we must go and I'm sure you feel the same way. This is why we are a part of the Constitution Party - seeking to build a new, dynamic political party based on Biblical and Constitutional principles that we understand are not only the historical roots of our nation but our very salvation as a nation. We cannot exist for much longer as a free people outside of these boundaries. Over the past few weeks, I have had opportunity to dialogue with a number of "conservative" friends and acquaintances and found those conversations to be somewhat frustrating and disappointing. So many "good people" are so afraid of the "boogeyman", represented by the presumed Democratic nominee, that they are willing to accept whatever President Bush and the Republicans offer. In doing so, they sell themselves and our nation short. As an example, President Bush could do TODAY what Michael Peroutka (the
presumed CP nominee) insists he would do if elected President in November:
end abortion. But this President (thus far) has chosen not to do this.
Why? Because, in all probability, it would cost him his job. Even if the
American people "aren't ready" to end abortion (as he has stated),
God is! And I am! And I'm confident a great majority of you are! What
we need in this country is strong moral leadership and we have not gotten
this We are now entering the summer of 2004 and the political "Olympics" will intensify in earnest. The two major parties will turn up the volume on their quadra-annual pageant and millions of Americans will get caught up in all the drama, as it is unfolded before us. While this is going on, our nation continues ever closer to the precipice of our destruction. I've been asked (as I'm sure many of you have as well), "What if Kerry gets elected?". Yes, what if he does? What do we honestly believe will change? Both the President and Senator Kerry are committed internationalists. Domestically, they both have espoused positions and policies that are outside the boundaries of the Constitution. I submit that the only changes will be cosmetic, at best. A difference of style rather than substance. But enough of what the "other guys" are doing. What are we doing? The first big order of business is meeting in National Convention to finalize our Platform and select our 2004 Presidential and Vice-Presidential nominees. Right now, this would appear to be Michael Anthony Peroutka (pronounced purr-ROOT-ka) and Dr. Chuck Baldwin. Our Convention will be held in historic Valley Forge, PA from June 23-26. You do not have to be a delegate to attend the Convention. The two most critical days will be on Friday and Saturday. These are the days the two nominees will be selected and will give their respective acceptance speeches. There are some special rates being offered for folks who can only attend these two days (please check the national website [www.constitutionparty.org] for details). If at all possible, please join us in Valley Forge! We have been told that C-SPAN, the Washington Post and other national media outlets will be in Valley Forge to cover our Convention. Let's have a strong representation from the Badger State - please join us for this historic occasion. The County Fair season begins this month. Already, we've had a good response to our new "cluster" arrangement but we still need YOU to volunteer to help YOUR cluster with financing and staffing a CPoW booth at YOUR county fair. If you are not sure which cluster you are in (based on the county where you live), you can find it by looking at our website (www.cpow.org) or write or call us. If your cluster does not have a contact person, volunteer to serve in this capacity. We need YOUR help with this project TODAY!! We also could use your help with our Wisconsin State Fair project. The entry fees are larger and duration is longer than most County Fairs so the financial and staffing needs are greater as well. If your cluster is not able to sponsor a booth at a county fair within your cluster, please contribute to this state-level project. Even if your cluster is sponsoring one or more county fair booths, please send a generous contribution to our State Fair project. Or volunteer to spend a day at the State Fair working in the booth. Or both! The exposure the CPoW receives at this ten day event is enormously valuable, so please help with this project as generously as you can with your money or your time. Fairs are a great place to meet and greet our friends and neighbors while introducing them to the Constitution Party. As mentioned earlier, we may have encountered some stiff resistance from those who we would think should be natural allies: family members, fellow church members or other known "conservatives" in the community. Perhaps we could (should) look to another group of Americans - those who have dropped out or feel that their involvement doesn't matter. We need to actively recruit in this circle. Who do YOU know who has dropped out of the political process (for whatever reason)? Chances are you know several. Our "conservative" friends who are too timid or ashamed to admit the RNC has left them behind (or who are willing to accept "half a loaf") know who we are and how to find us. It is this largely untapped resource of the "politically homeless" that we need to turn our attention toward. At a recent cluster fundraiser, I was asked by a visitor to our booth if I had had a good day of arguing politics with people! I replied that I had had many interesting discussions with folks but no arguments (at least on my part!). I mention this here as a warning (for some) and a reminder (for others). Please do not do "verbal battle" with visitors to your booth or in one-to-one discussions. Simply present our message and calmly stay on theme. If you are asked about a subject that you are not well versed, admit the deficit and listen to what is being said. Experience has shown us that eventually something will be said that can be used to return to our basic theme (God.Family.Country). Someone once said, "He who has the weakest argument has the loudest voice". I agree with the merit of this saying. Please remember that we wish to influence our fellow Americans not browbeat them! I am pleased to announce the candidacy of two CPoW members for public office in the November elections. Jim Tostenson of Fremont is a candidate for the 41st Assembly seat (being vacated by its current occupant). Larry Oftedahl of Barron is challenging incumbent David Obey for the 7th US Congressional seat. Both of these gentlemen are well qualified to hold these offices and represent the ideals and objective of our party. We will provide more information about both of these races (and any others who join Jim and Larry) in our next letter. Right now, both men are busy circulating nomination papers throughout their respective districts. If you would like to help either (or both) of these men with their campaigns, please let them or me know right away. Remember, as a result of a lawsuit begun and won by the CPoW a few years ago, a circulator does not have to be a resident of the district where the petition is being circulated - this means anyone can help a candidate anywhere. This certainly is a busy time of the year. Many of us are putting final preparations on our summer travel plans or other gatherings. Please don't forget to include the CPoW in those plans! We have much to accomplish in the next few months and want you to be a part of it - in fact, you must be a part of it or it won't happen! Don't let a few fellow CPoW members have all the fun - get out there and get involved!! I hope to see many of you working a booth, or sitting in a float in a local parade, or serving brats a brat-fry fundraiser or out on the campaign trail for both our national and state candidates. The key here is YOU being out there, being busy building this party, working to preserve us a nation under God. May He bless our efforts as we seek to RESTORE THE REPUBLIC. Sincerely, Randy W. Hamby
