Constitution Party of Wisconsin

August 2004 Newsletter
Dear CPoW members and friends,

It has been several weeks since we last sent something to your mailbox. During this interval, the Constitution Party - both nationally and here in Wisconsin - has been full of activity and great achievements toward our goal to "Restore the Republic".

Perhaps the most significant activity was our National Convention held in historic Valley Forge, PA June 24-26. The Convention was well attended with delegations from the several States plus many other visitors and friends. Quite naturally, the décor/theme was Colonial, befitting the location with its rich American heritage. We were able to conduct our Party business and also enjoy visits to many historic sites.

The 2004 CP Platform that emerged from Convention is not much different from our 2000 Platform. The amended items only strengthened the already sound document. Copies of the 2004 Platform - both abbreviated and complete - should be available in hard copy by the end of the month. Those of you who want to read it now should visit the National website at (www.constitutionparty.com).

Our presumptive Presidential nominee, Michael Anthony Peroutka, handily won the nomination on the first ballot. His choice for a running mate, Dr. Chuck Baldwin, was later nominated by unanimous consent! The 2004 Constitution Party ticket of Peroutka/Baldwin are now on the campaign trail, actively seeking victory this November.

Some have wondered whether or not Peroutka/Baldwin will be on our Wisconsin ballots this fall. The answer is a resounding YES! The CP has a "line" on this fall's ballot for not only Michael and Chuck but other CP candidates seeking office here in Wisconsin. To obtain Peroutka/Baldwin campaign materials (bumper stickers/brochures/yard signs/etc.), you can contact their campaign headquarters at www.peroutka2004.com or by calling toll-free 877-MAP-2004 (877-627-2004).
You can also obtain campaign materials right here in Wisconsin from L.F.O.D. Campaign Supply at www.lfod.com or by calling 262-473-4414. The most important thing is to get these materials and get the word out!

We mentioned that there will be other CP candidates on this fall's ballots. This November, voters in Wisconsin's 4th and 7th Congressional Districts and in State Assembly Districts 12 and 41 will have a REAL choice. Four CPoW members have stepped forward to the challenge of running for elective office this fall under the CP banner. There are (in alphabetical order): Colin Hudson, Larry Oftedahl, Joan Tatarsky and Jim Tostensen.

Colin is running for the 4th Congressional seat being vacated by longtime Democratic Congressman Gerald Kleczka. Colin will be joined in the race by Democratic and Republican candidates (exactly who will be determined in the September primary). Colin has a bachelor's degree in mathematics, served as an officer in the US Army and currently is involved in pro-life ministries in the Milwaukee area. Calls have already been received asking for Colin to participate in several debates scheduled for September and October.

Larry Oftedal's race for the 7th Congressional District may prove to be one of our better opportunities this campaign season. At the last moment, the only Republican candidate dropped out of the race for personal reasons. The Republicans were not able to find and ballot-qualify a replacement candidate before the filing deadline so the race will feature Larry, a Wisconsin Green candidate and the incumbent, Rep. Dave Obey (D)! Already, Larry has been contacted by a few Republicans in the 7th and asked for his campaign materials!! This is a wonderful opportunity for the CP/CPoW to showcase our platform, our principles and - certainly - our candidate.

Joan Tatarsky is known to many of us from her many years of active participation in the CPoW. She is running to succeed Shirley Krug (D) in the 12th Assembly District. Rep. Krug recently resigned her seat to campaign for the open State Senate seat in her District so Joan's race is wide open. Her Democratic and Republican opponents are yet to be determined (through the September primary process).

Jim Tostensen is running to fill the 41st Assembly seat being vacated by his cousin, Luther Olson (R). In the Fall election, Jim will vie with a Democratic candidate and one of nine Republicans currently seeking that party's nomination! Jim is a well-spoken, articulate gentleman whose vocation is farming. His understanding and advocacy of the need for limited government and more individual responsibility is rooted in his experiences operating an active farm.

All of these candidates, both here in Wisconsin and national, need our financial support and our "hands-on" support as well. Each candidate values every dollar and every volunteer hour they receive from their supporters. This is what we (CPoW) exist to do - run candidates for political office and see them elected to the office they seek. But this "action" cannot operate in a vacuum or hope to succeed without the active, focused, dedicated efforts of many. We must rally behind our candidates; support them physically (by actively campaigning for them), financially (by giving generously to their campaign fund) and with our prayers.

Included in this mailing is a Peroutka for President brochure for your information and to demonstrate the type of literature available to promote our Presidential candidate. After reading through this well-done brochure, would you think of 100 people you could hand one to or mail one to? We know far more people than we sometimes think we do; many of these people in our "circle" are there because they think or believe like we do. Perhaps they are part of what we have referred to as the "politically homeless" - solid citizens frightened and unsure of what choice they should make this November.

BE BOLD - hand these people a Peroutka brochure when the question "who are you voting for this fall?" comes up - you know it will (if it hasn't already). And what is usually the next question that comes? "Who is he?" This is part and parcel of the action known as campaigning. Many of our contacts will also ask about the Constitution Party. We have some excellent materials to help answer that question as well. We must all be "Information Desks" when it comes to providing our friends and neighbors with answers to their candidate questions.

To that end, several of our Clusters have been active staffing County Fair booths this summer and will continue through the end of the season (around Labor Day. Unfortunately, we were not able to sponsor a booth at the Wisconsin State Fair this year. We are unhappy with this turn-of-events but prize the efforts our members and friends have made (and are making) at the County Fairs. We have been receiving names from these fairs of people who wish to learn more about the CP and CPoW by joining our mailing list.

As expected, the number of requests for information packets has also increased. We receive contact names from National seemingly every day in addition to calls and letters directly to our office from interested folks who have either visited our website or perhaps seen a yard sign or bumper sticker. Friends, there are many people all around us seeking a REAL alternative to the two major party offerings. They know - or at least hope - there is an alternative. Naturally, when they discover us, they are both very pleased and very curious why they hadn't heard of us before. This is where you and I come in.

Will you be an "Information Desk"? Will you commit to purchasing brochures and other literature to pass along to those around who are wanting or need to know more? Please contact the Peroutka 2004 campaign or LFOD today and load up on "ammo" for the "battle" in the days ahead. We need each and every one reading this to join in the fray!

Support our candidates - with your time, talent and treasure. Contact them TODAY. Thank them for being willing to "stand in the gap" and let them know of your support and prayers. If you are not sure where to start, give me a call and we'll develop an individual battle plan especially for you!

For America's Future,

Randy W. Hamby
Chairman
