Dear Members and Friends, The final "push" of the campaign season is underway. The hype and huck from the two major party candidates will be reaching a premeditated and carefully calculated crescendo moments before the polls open on November 2nd. We are certain everyone reading this letter has seen or heard more than enough at this point but the "best" is yet to come! As an antidote to this madness, please recall (or consider) what we of the Constitution Party are seeking and who we are supporting. These thoughts should both calm us and steel us for the battles ahead. We want far more for America than what George Bush and his Republican cronies or John Kerry and his Democratic comrades envision for our Republic. Their views are similar - bigger government, more tax and spend schemes and - ultimately - less freedom for all. We have the right message, at the right time and the right candidates to help us achieve those goals. But here's a twist: Due to a miscommunication, coupled with a clerical error, the Constitution Party Presidential Candidate ballot line will appear blank in Wisconsin. The CPoW State Executive Committee is working to identify the exact cause of this situation and has already taken some of the steps necessary to ensure this does not happen again. For the 2004 fall election at hand we are alerting our Party members, and Wisconsin Peroutka supporters, that it will be necessary to write-in Michael Peroutka's name on the ballot on November 2nd. What does this mean? Perhaps,
we should begin with what it doesn't mean. First, it doesn't mean
that Michael Peroutka & Chuck Baldwin are not legitimate, viable candidates
for the Presidency/VP next month. They most definitely are! Essentially, all that we must do is write Michael's name on the ballot before marking our "X" or connecting our arrow or performing whatever means of marking your affirmative vote on your ballot. That is one of the reasons we have included another copy of Michael's campaign brochure. Carry it with you into the voting booth, if need be, to help you remember how to spell his name! Please remember to print clearly so the voting clerks can easily identify the write-in candidate you have chosen - Michael Peroutka! Additionally, while you will
see two write-in lines, it is not necessary to write-in Dr. Chuck
Baldwin's name, In fact, it would be better if you did not so there will
be no confusion of exactly who you are casting your vote for President.
According to Wisconsin statutes, Michael and Chuck are a team and only
the Presidential candidate need have his name written-in for it to count
toward the Peroutka-Baldwin ticket. We have received many good reports from around the state about successful contacts with the public regarding our Party and our candidates. For example, during the recent Octoberfest in Appleton, our workers were able to pass out hundreds of pieces of literature and engage many attendees in meaningful conversations. This is the essence of what we must do - restore the Republic one person at a time. We certainly cannot depend on the Fourth Estate to be our adjunct PR Department so we must get our message out through as many venues as we can legitimately. Public events, like Octoberfest, County Fairs, Brat Frys, etc., will help us build the Party. And build it we must! Seating candidates into office is one - but not the only - measure of success. Certainly, we want to see candidates we support win office. Yet consider the effect we have on the people we touch. Many have walked away from our booths, etc. agreeing with us but yet they do not yet have the courage or the vision to break from their tired, old traditions and defeatist attitudes ("I don't like either of the two major party candidates but I have to vote for someone who can win" - or something close to that). What we offer is hope and that is a powerful human dynamic. Regardless of the November 2nd outcome, we will continue to speak out and strive to build our Party. We must not allow either victory or defeat at the polls to determine the value of what we do. If we are doing what is right for our country (and I maintain that we are), then we must press onward. Consider the up-coming Spring 2005 election. We have opportunities here to take our seat on city councils, town and county boards and on school boards. Just because these offices are non-partisan (meaning a candidate doesn't run as a Party candidate) doesn't mean these seats are unimportant. We were recent challenged about our involvement in local politics by being asked, "why do not more Constitution Party members hold local office?" This is a fair question. And the answer lies with you and me. At our latest State Committee meeting, every member was challenged to run for local office this coming Spring or actively support a CPoW member in his or her bid for local office. I extend that challenge to everyone reading this letter. Prayerfully and seriously consider taking on this challenge. We need "players on the field, not fans in the stands". If you have any questions about what is required (duties, time commitment, etc.) for any of these local offices, check with your municipal clerk or even the current officeholder. Nomination papers can be taken out to begin the circulation process on December 1st so the time to begin thinking seriously about this is NOW! We still have some Peroutka/Baldwin campaign materials available that will not be of any use after November 2nd. Our campaign materials supplier, LFOD, is offering some excellent pricing so these materials can get our where they'll do some good. Please contact them at (262) 473-4414 or check out their website (www.lfod.com). The time to act is NOW! In closing, let me remind us not to become discouraged in "well doing". The disappointment of not having Michael's and Chuck's names printed on our ballots need not stop us - unless we choose to allow it to do so. We must know that while some things may catch us by surprise, they do not catch the One who removes and sets up kings off guard. What we must do is our very best, admit error as it comes, learn, and strive to do right always, even in the face of strong opposition. These are certainly trying times but they are not hopeless times. Let's be sure to keep our chins up and our knees bent! For a better, freer America,
