FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
This morning, at the 2002 State Convention of the Constitution Party of Wisconsin, being held this year in Pewaukee, several changes to the State Planks of the Party Platform were voted on.
Newly elected State Committee Chairman Daniel M. Hoyt had this to say: "While a variety of business was addressed this morning, I believe the most notable items were changes to the abortion plank and the addition of a plank concerning the property rights of Wisconsin residents."
The Abortion plank was renamed to "Abortion, Euthanasia and Bio-Research". This change in title brings with it a new paragraph to the Plank that reads: "In addition we oppose the funding of and support the outlawing of bio-research involving human embryonic or pre-embryonic cells."
"This addition to the Platform is in direct response to the current State budget which calls for millions of taxpayer dollars to fund a University of Wisconsin Madison project called 'Bio-Star'" Hoyt said. "It's widely known that the citizens of Wisconsin are mostly pro-life. How the Governor and legislators in Madison can get away with this kind of spending in our current budgetary crisis is beyond me."
The second change, concerning property owner's rights, adds a new plank called "Smart Growth" which reads: "The Constitution Party of Wisconsin stands against state directed land use planning. The notion of 'Smart Growth' strikes at the very concept of private property. It attempts government control of property by allowing the property owner only title and responsibility for taxes, while imposing draconian legal user restrictions upon land, and relinquishing all other control of it to government bureaucracy."
Hoyt added "There's nothing smart about the concept of 'Smart Growth'. Individual municipalities should be allowed to continue dealing with land use, planning and zoning issues on their own, or with the input of neighboring communities. Nothing should be mandated by State and Federal government where private property is concerned. This is just another example of the Federal government trying to take control over something where there is no constitutional authority to do so and historically has been dealth with by local governments.
The Constitution Party of Wisconsin was founded in 1992 as the U.S. Taxpayers party. The name was changed in September of 1999 to remain in-line with the National organization.
